In September 2024, flooding occurred in the city of Suzu, which was affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, and HuMA decided to dispatch a survey team to Suzu City. As a result of the assessment, HuMA will dispatch nurses and other medical staff to elderly care facilities in Suzu City, where concerns about infection control and staff shortages are serious.
UPDATES!!
Today marks the end of HuMA’s support activities. While we enjoyed mild days where short-sleeves were sufficient just a few days ago, the weather has turned colder, and we’ve found myself unable to part with my windbreaker. We can truly feel winter approaching. Incidentally, our uniforms were very popular, with many people complimenting us on […]
Due to a staff meeting this morning, residents were unable to take baths. For residents with cold hands, we performed hand massages while they soaked their hands in warm water. We were delighted to hear various positive responses such as “It feels so good!”, “I’m warming up!”, and “Thank you!”. Some residents even fell asleep […]
Even under the clear blue sky after yesterday’s rain, the HuMA team is continuing our support activities at the elderly care facility today. For our afternoon recreation, we held a red-versus-white volleyball tournament using large balloons. With nostalgic Showa-era pop music playing in the background, participants moved muscles they don’t usually use, engaging in a […]
Today, our morning bathing assistance began more leisurely than usual, setting a peaceful tone for the day. We were particularly moved by our interactions with two female residents, aged 105 and 102. They walked steadily with their walkers and enjoyed their juice without any thickener, expressing their gratitude with a smile. We were captivated by […]
10/24A new nurse has joined the HuMA team at the elderly care facility in Suzu City. She was one of the many who helped at the Horyu Elementary and Junior High School shelter during the recent earthquake, working side by side with the facility staff to assemble cardboard beds and distribute bedding. Overjoyed to see […]
Today, HuMA nurse was once again busy at the elderly care facility. As she was wiping the hands of a resident and sitting beside them, she encountered a resident who was particularly good at conversation. The resident spoke in a strong local dialect, which made it difficult for the nurse to fully understand. However, a […]
HuMA nurse, who is currently engaged in support activities at a nursing home for the elderly, worked at the Horyu Elementary and Junior High School shelter in Suzu City during the Noto earthquake in January. “I remember seeing you at Horyu Elementary during the earthquake,” a staff member recalled. At the nursing care facility, we provide support for daily living, including meals, bathing, and dressing. Initially, […]
The water outage from yesterday has been resolved and business in the Elderly Care and Welfare was conducted as usual. In the morning, 5 residents took a bath. Because of the long distance to be transported and the steps, we took them to the bathroom with caution. After bathing, we assisted the residents in dressing […]
“Due to a water supply disruption, bathing was canceled today.” The staff efficiently instructed us on how to change diapers during a water shortage, and we followed their directions. Although the water supply was restored in the afternoon, bathing remained canceled, and we changed diapers again. However, this time, we returned to our usual procedures. […]
The facility conducted annual health checkups for all residents. To ensure a smooth X-ray process, HuMA nurses assisted residents with transportation and dressing. Thanks to the prior preparations by the night shift staff, the examinations went very smoothly. In the latter half of the morning, we assisted with mealtime. Today, one of the HuMA nurses […]
Thanks to the beautiful autumn weather, two nurses from HuMA volunteered at a nursing home. In the morning, we consulted with the facility staff and assisted with diaper changes. As we had observed a resident who required suction yesterday, we performed suctioning during diaper changes to help prevent aspiration. The residents remembered our faces and […]
From today onward, our team of two HuMA nurses will be collaborating with the elderly care facility. By assisting with diaper changes, we had a firsthand look at the facility staff’s expert techniques and were reminded of the crucial role of assessing residents’ ADL abilities. In the afternoon, we helped bathe around 20 residents. The […]

It was a warm day with a clear blue sky on October 9th, so warm that we could wear a short-sleeved shirt. However, the strong wind stirred up dust from the dried mud in the flooded areas, making it difficult to walk and stinging our eyes. Especially in the seaside town where we are working, […]
The recent heavy rains have compounded the difficulties faced by a community still recovering from the January earthquake, particularly impacting the elderly population. As we continue to provide support at a local care facility, we witness firsthand the struggles they face. The cold, wet weather makes daily tasks difficult and raises concerns for the well-being […]

On the morning of the second day of our activities, we set out on foot from the Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) Suzu Office, our base, to explore the surrounding area.
