We conducted support activities to alleviate the manpower shortage at a senior citizen care facility. Bathing assistance for approximately 26 residents daily required a significant amount of labor. We focused on assisting with bathing and transportation of residents requiring high levels of care. During these interactions, we had the opportunity to learn the local Suzu dialect and listen to the residents’ stories. Although the dialect was challenging, the warmth and kindness of the residents and staff were truly inspiring.
The facility staff expressed their deep appreciation for our help, saying, “We are so grateful to have HuMA here.” It was a rewarding experience to know that our efforts were making a difference.
Visiting Suzu City for the first time in a long time after the earthquake relief activities, we were encouraged to see signs of recovery, but at the same time, we couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of sadness when we saw the accumulated sediment and flooded houses. Even though we know there’s only so much we can do, we are determined to contribute to the recovery efforts in any way possible.
