Today, HuMA is supporting a maternity hospital in Nanao City in parallel with its relief center activities in Suzu City. We assisted a pregnant woman who had a natural childbirth. A healthy baby was born.
Today we had two deliveries. The patient was suffering from frequent contractions, so the HuMA midwife started labor palliative care. By teaching her breathing techniques and encouraging her to relax, the delivery proceeded smoothly. The delivery was done in a side lying position on a normal bed in an endoscopy room without delivery equipment. Although the midwife needed to be experienced in the side lying position, the baby was delivered safely and the baby’s general condition was very good.
Members working in Suzu City provided medical care at evacuation centers and home visits. We cooperate with many organizations to promote support. We visited facilities with mobile pharmacy pharmacists and held meetings with local managers. We also coordinated with the Tokushima DPAT (Disaster Psychiatric Assistance Team) regarding future measures for mentally ill evacuees who may have difficulty continuing their current evacuee lifestyle.
The relief station is still receiving a constant stream of patients. A man who suffered burns from propane gas is cleaned daily, his wounds are monitored and gauze is changed.
There was an aftershock in the evening, but everyone is safe.
