A 90-year-old woman who was trapped between both lower limbs for 124 hours, which occurred yesterday, was responded to by Peace Winds Japan and transported to Suzu City General Hospital, where she survived although she required a decompression incision.
Since yesterday, a technical support group has been in the area, using heavy machinery and other support. DHEAT has joined and mobile pharmacy has started.
HuMA divided the teams into three groups: medical, hygiene, and assessment. The medical team examined eight people in the morning and four in the afternoon. Some of them needed mental health care. The hygiene team consulted with a person in charge of the facility and secured a room for infection isolation.
The assessment team conducted assessments at several districts and shelter, and we are relieved to report that there were no cases that required immediate attention. Some shelter did not have a thermometer, so supplies were requested. There were evacuation centers that were again inaccessible due to landslides and collapsed roads.
At the evening meeting, several general practitioners contacted in Suzu City reported that they could prescribe drugs but could not examine patients. A corona outbreak occurred at one daycare center; Mobile pharmacy was initiated. They will also perform drug identification, and after prescribing disaster prescriptions to the health promotion center, the SDF will deliver the drugs.
At the meeting, we explained that the number of evacuees requiring mental health care was gradually increasing and asked the Disaster Psychiatric Assistance Team (DPAT) to consider providing medical treatment.
We were informed that there is a high possibility that major roads will be closed due to heavy snowfall from tomorrow onward. Two patients were seen in the evening. There was another power outage at night today. Bathing will finally begin tomorrow at the evacuation center. Evacuees at Horyu Elementary and Junior High School are in desperate need of underwear, so we requested supplies from the Livelihood Support Subcommittee. The evacuation center still does not have a web environment. It is still snowing at night and it is very cold.
