Giving warm support in the heart of autumn (10.14)

Thanks to the beautiful autumn weather, two nurses from HuMA volunteered at a nursing home.

In the morning, we consulted with the facility staff and assisted with diaper changes. As we had observed a resident who required suction yesterday, we performed suctioning during diaper changes to help prevent aspiration. The residents remembered our faces and greeted us warmly, saying, “You’ve come a long way.” Their kind words were very encouraging.

In the afternoon, there was a “wa-daiko” (traditional Japanese drum) event at another facility, and some of the residents went to watch. With the remaining residents, we enjoyed a balloon volleyball recreation. We were happy to be able to create a time for the residents and staff to spend together with smiles on their faces in the warm autumn sunshine.

Later, as it began to get colder, we helped the residents change their bedding to winter ones. While changing the bedding, we felt the approaching cold season for the elderly and were determined to provide as much support as we could.
