Disaster Relief Efforts: Current State and Issues (10.10)

Following the heavy rainfall disaster in the Noto Peninsula, we are continuing to provide support at a nursing home today. The support activities are centered around daily care for the residents, such as diaper changing and bathing assistance.

We are also collaborating with other support organizations, holding regular meetings to share information about our respective support activities. Through these efforts, we aim to build a more effective support system and strengthen our support for those affected by the disaster.

The January earthquake and the recent heavy rain have caused significant anxiety among the disaster victims. Those who have lost their homes and are living in evacuation shelters are under immense physical and mental stress, with many experiencing deteriorating health and loneliness. Some people are living in isolated areas where the mountainsides have collapsed. In evacuation shelters, residents are generally responsible for tasks such as cleaning the toilets, which can be a burden for the elderly. We feel that more personalized support is needed.

Moreover, there is a severe shortage of manpower in the entire region. Due to the disaster, many nursing facilities are experiencing staff shortages, hindering their operations. In particular, securing new staff is difficult in these depopulated areas, raising concerns about the future operation of these facilities.

While there are still many challenges in the disaster-stricken area, we will continue our support efforts to ensure that the residents can live with peace of mind.
